Toyota “Solarup”

This is just the type of vehicle to wake Oddimotive up from a slumber that’s been a bit too long. Here we have a Solara Convertible – the more reliable alternative to a Chrysler Sebring Convertible – which has had part of a Ford Explorer Sport Trac grafted onto its rear. We went with Solarup for the headline but this could be a Soltrac, Sporara or something else. Feel free to add suggestions in the comments!

Often, we use terms like grafted loosely, when homemade Ford Fiesta and Geo Metro pickup display shoddy work. Here, someone has almost surgically grafted in the bits, which is quite impressive when one considers the joining of the bed with what’s left of the Solara’s quarter panels. Of course,

That leaves a critical question: WHY? For that, we have no answer, but we’re inclined to simply say “why not?” After all, no enthusiast vehicles were harmed in the making of this oddity.

At the end of the day, anyone intrigued enough (sorry, Oldsmobile) to buy this will get a 153K mile, V6-powered, strange vehicle. So…what’s not to love?

The interior appears to be unmolested and in good enough shape, given the mileage. while the exterior of this car is, frankly, fascinating, the interior is just good ‘ol Camry.

From the front, this looks perfectly normal, at least for something out of Toyota in the “melting bar of soap” day. We’re looking at you, SC430…

At first glance, things seem pretty normal from this angle, too.

So, will you be the brave and adventurous soul who buys this one? We have to say we’re tempted as this one is very near Oddimotive HQ in Middle Tennessee.
