Form the Alliance of your choice

Here we have two Renault Alliance convertibles posted within a couple days of each other.  Each easily qualifies as an oddity – not only is each a Renault, but is also among the last and is convertible.  As a bonus, there were both built in Wisconsin, from what we understand.

Car #1 is a GTA Convertible with the 2-liter four cylinder and 5-speed manual.  We’ve heard before that these handle well and are reasonably fun to drive.

Car #2 is a more pedestrian Alliance with 1.7-liter four and the same manual trans.

10/24/2013 update:  Ended unsold at $2,000.  Later relisted for same and ended the same.

You humble host remembers one of these from the neighborhood back in the day.  They did have a cool, sporty look at the time.

Apparently, the top can go up.  That’s always a good sign.

Interior looks like a good place to spend some time.

Fuel injected 2.0-liter four cylinder offered 95 horsepower.  It could be worse…

One could say this is a cleaner look without the add-ons, but we think the GTA wears them well.

I’m sure we’ve said it many time here – we miss fully color keyed interiors!

Did we mention it could get worse?  This 1.7-liter engine was rated at 77.5 HP.

No Reserve!

1987 Renault GTA Alliance convertible. Very rare Euro F1 inspired pocket rocket. Only 1000 ever made and many less survivors.

Confirmed 123K miles. original paint. well maintained, 3 owners, one dealer.

2.0L 4cyl, 5speed manual

Original sport seats, original 15 inch Ronal aluminum mags, Renault Cup sport steering wheel. Factory Zender (of Germany) body kit/ground effects.

Great handling French F1 inspired sports car with a skidpad equivalent (.89 G) to the Corvette of its day. 0-60 in 9.6 sec.

Recently replaced

Belts and hoses
Timing belt (according to previous owner)
Front CV joints
Rear shocks
Brakes
Distributor and spark plug wires
Clutch

Despite looking good in pictures, the paint would need to be redone if the car is to be exhibited as the clearcoat is fading. There is no rust on the body or underneath. As can be seen the interior is in amazing condition for the age. there are no cracks in the plastic or dash. the tires are in good condition and have remaining tread.

The clutch has been recently replaced. The exhaust and catalytic converter are in good condition and were replaced recently as well. 2 hubcaps are missing. There is a box of extra parts.

The convertible top is push button and works perfectly. there are 2 small repairs in the top that have been professionally done and are watertight.

The car has the original spare, jack and a repair manual. The current issues include: the parking brake needs to be tightened, the heat shield over the header rattles at idle, there is a crack in one of the plastic covers on the engine (no consequence) and in the lower door window gaskets (the others are ok). (I plan to take care of the parking brake and heat shield in the near future but may not get to them before the car sells)

Overall great driver GTA that could easily be brought to local show quality with a paint job. Runs perfect. Clean title, plated and insured. Drives great around town and on the highway. Car is very sporty.

I am an American living in Montreal and am willing to advise about getting the car across the border if it is purchased by another American. (I can speak from experience that this process is very simple for a car of this age) This Renault was originally from the US and spent the majority of it’s time in Georgia. The car is currently registered with a clean title in Quebec.

Need to sell to finance another project. Possibly interested in trades.

Nice 1985 Renault Alliance

This little car is amazing, factory sticker advertised 52 mpg hwy with no special equipment

Not a hybrid, or electric, just a great little French car assembled by AMC in the 80’s

Because it has been sitting in my driveway for years unused it’s time to get rid of it

I had the shop get it up and going again

Probably spent too much because I owe the shop over a $1000 in repairs

The following repairs were completed:
New head gasket
New timing belt
New crankshaft sensor
New distributor cap & rotor
New spark plugs
New plug wires
Professionally cleaned fuel tank
New fuel pump
New fuel filter
New battery

Car runs and drives well, but is in no way perfect

The vinyl top needs to be replaced, however a replacement top with instructions is included in the price for you to install

Payment within 24-hours of auctions end via PayPal only
