Cherokee Chief

These just don’t come around often anymore, but were once a fairly common sight.  They were always badass, and the big block in this one backs that up.

Obviously, the exterior isn’t good aesthetically, but the seller claims there’s little bodywork to be done, so it’s mostly paint if you would choose to touch it.  There are no interior shots, but it seems the front seats have been swapped out.  The engine was recently rebuilt, but the exhaust wasn’t done to smog specs, so it would take some work to make this a steetable car in CA.  If the documents back up the significant engine work claims, this isn’t a bad deal, especially if you live somewhere without emissions checks.  Even with it, you could potentially do the work for just a little money (?).  It’s too bad it’s newer than 1975…

It’s good to see some of the decals still in place, but the exterior is otherwise rough.  It looks good that way.

I’m selling my 1977 AMC Jeep Cherokee Chief 4×4 with a rare 401 Big Block motor. This Jeep has been in my family since I was born, my dad was the original owner. He finally gave this to me a few years back and I got the motor rebuilt putting over 5k in to just the motor. All I’m asking is $2800. My loss is your gain. I just don’t have the space and time for it anymore. It has a brand new rebuilt engine with less than 25 miles on it. A little about the Jeep.

– RARE 401 Big Block (bored .30 over)
– New Pistons O-rings etc. (The machining alone was $3000)
– Dana 40/60 Front and Rear end (4×4)
– Automatic Transmission
– Hooker Long Tube Headers
– 3″ Exhaust System
– Brand New Mufflers
– Edelbrock Intake Manifold
– K&N Air Filter
– Brand new Torque Converter
– Edelbrock Carburetor
– MSD Ignition
– New Battery
– Crome Valve Covers
– Brand New Water Pump
– Brand New Fuel Pump

Rebuilt and machining was done by Wild West Bills Machine Shop. The Jeep needs a fine tuning to the carb. It runs on the rich side. Haven’t had time to take it back in to get it fine tuned. It has very minor body work that needs to be done to it, which is front driver fender is bent thats it, other than that the body is in excellent shape. Some rust on bottom of the fenders. This Jeep has never been in a wreck, and has a clean title. My intention was to make this an off road vehicle, so it is on non op. To put it back on the street you would need to smog it, to do that you would need to install smog pump and put cats on exhaust system, not much needed. The Jeep has a small lift on it I believe 3″. Interior and exterior needs some love. Rear bench seat is in great shape. I also put mustang seats in for driver and passenger much more comfortable than original.
