Subtle Luxury: AMC Hornet Sportabout Gucci Edition

What could be more tasteful and luxurious than a 1970s luxury special edition from AMC?

The seller claims one prior owner and 82K original miles, though it has a few needs from lack of use.  Does $4,500 seem like a bargain for the lap of AMC luxury?  Yes, someone thought this was a good idea.   We make fun of 70s style a lot, these days, but have you looked at  the size of the sunglasses you’ve been wearing since the mid-2000s?  We might just have gone through another 70s…

The exterior doesn’t look too special from any distance. But…what’s that badge on the front fender?

Nothing unusual (for an AMC wagon) here.

THERE IT IS!  Tasteful green with beige and red accents.

Yes, the detail carries over to the rear seats.

Interior badge shows Gucci actually claimed this as their own.  The “brand whore” concept is thus proven to have gone back at least forty-two years.

Here’s a close-up of that exterior badge.

hello , i have for sale a 1972 AMC Hornet Sportabout (wagon )

with extremely rare “GUCCI ” package . there were only roughly 5,000 of these ever made and few remain . this one was aquired from the original owner , in S. Pasadena CA. where it has always lived since purchase (ive yet to transfer it in my name and still has original owners info on title and reg. ). it had been garaged since 1991 until about a month ago . it has 82k original miles . The Gucci interior is in excellent condition and only has minor issues , such as the seams coming apart in area. no rips or tears or even signs of wear. the dash is perfect without cracks . It was my intent to restore it but my daily driver has an issue so i need to sell this . The engine fires right up and idles / runs perfect . ive only driven it cautiously around my neighborhood. drives great and has much power . i believe it either needs a brake job or the drums are sticky ,as the brakes seemed weak. the pedal goes almost to the floor which leads me to believe its a stuck drum situation . the car was stored with no gas or coolant , so not an issue .
the paint is original , rust is not an issue , and everything appears to work as it should although i havent tried everything . The rear bumper has a ding and there are a couple minor issues with exterior but hardly noticeable .engine is straight 6 . it has a lot of power. I have the original owners manuals and paperwork. it has all of the original GUCCI emblems on exterior and interior . interior carpet / headliner etc are all in excellent shape and have no issues

    I can't tell if it's my eyes, my computer, or what, but does the glass have a greenish tint to it? I am loving this car soooo much. But for the $4,500 price tag, fix the brakes why dontcha?

    brakes were simply lacking in brake fluid . which has been resolved . still need to be bled though ;
