Silvia with her Top Off: S15 Varietta Roller

Though the S13 and S14 Nissan Sylvias were popular in the US, where they were known as 240SX, the S15 verision, produced from 1999 to 2002, never made it to the US.  Nissan did offer a soft-top convertible version of the S13 for a couple years, with that car converted at ASC in California.  Few realize that Nissan offered a retractable hardtop version of the S15, with the conversion done by captive ‘tuner’ Autech.

These came with the vaunted SR20DE originally, although non-convertible S15s were available with the fantastic turbocharged SR20DET variant pumping out 250 HP.  This example is a roller, which means it comes with no engine and no trans.  So, not only will any buyer find this impossible to register for US road us until 2025, they’ll also need to find suitable replacement.  We assume this was intended for a turbo/manual swap in the first place…

Does $30K sound reasonable to you when it involves a car you can’t drive on public roads and which comes with no engine or trans?  We didn’t think so…

There’s some S14 resemblance here, but it’s clearly a bit more modern.  Fear not!  The apparent ride height likely has to do with the missing engine.

Ungainly proportions are reminiscnt of the later Pontiac G6 convertible and perhaps the Lexus IS-C.

Wow – a car born with a Sylvia badge!

Again, most Sylvia badges in the US are on 240SXs.  The S15 look is completely different, however.  Of course, the convertible version has a radically different rear end.

This is the only interior shot and all we can tell is that it’s black and the seats aren’t bad and, yes, this has a back seat.
