Are you hungry for some cruising? Is a 70s van just too much to manage? The Ford Pinto Cruising Wagon could be the perfect solution…
Pitched as a smaller, cheaper, more economical alternative to a funky 70s van, the Pinto Cruising wagon incorporated the solid sides and tiny quarter windows so often seen on those (now creepy) vans.
This example has a loud knock when started, which means you might as well plan on bringing your own engine. The four-speed manula is in place, should you decide to keep it. Regardless, this is an opportunity to build it the way you want it. The cheap route would either be a home rebuild (if not too damaged) or a used engine from another Pinto; but the ideal build, in Oddimotive’s humble opinion, would involve a turbocharged 2.3-liter from a 2015+ Mustang. That would have the correct displacement for a later Pinto, would have a partial tie-in to the 80s Ford turbo four and would make for a badass sleeper. Go for it!
The seller claims no rust and points out that the interior needs work. Note that this will also have DMV back fees if registered in CA. Your mileage may vary in other states. With that concern and the condition, we bet this can be a $500 car after the auction end with no bids.

Yes, this has the classic Cruising Wagon Silver Metallic paint job with stripes! The mini-Magnum 500 wheels are also present.
Rear slats are bent – not sure if they can be salvages. Note that “sober graduation” decal!
Front end is pure Pinto with some parts blacked out on this special edition.
Interior is sporty for its age, but looks a bit tired.
It does look like it’s all there on teh inside.
This was pitched as a place to sleep (or hook up, or do blow). One could technically lay down there, but you might want to watch out for falling trim pieces. It’s not clear whether the #2 pencil comes with the car, but it could come in handy if you have ScanTron tests.
