Awesomely Terrible 1977 Pinto Roadster Conversion

This one is awesomely terrible and terribly awesome and truly among the Oddimotive greats! Not only is it a chopped Pinto, but the rear hatch glass was used as a trunk lid. We imagine it’s not very waterproof, but who cares when it’s this weird?

What’s under it all, you ask? Nothing stock, but also nothing exciting. This Pinto is powered by a Ford 3.8L V6. Sure, that’s bigger than anything ever offered in the Pinto – which maxed out with a 2.8L V6 – but it’s not likely to be particularly powerful and it’s tied to a an automatic trans. The seller claims some recent maintenance parts, but provides no information on the build nor the engine swap. The good news lies in the ready availability of mechanical parts and the ease of another swap, should the next owner decide this needs a turbo I4 or perhaps a supercharged 3.8 from a T-Bird SC or Cougar XR7. Not that we’re thinking about such things…

How’s that for a profile. Oh, did we mention the woodgrain? Or the side-exit exhaust?

Yes, we imagine the top to be custom. If not, can you name the car which “gifted” it to this Pinto?

Yes…hood scoop.

Here’s the best feature: The hatch glass has been used as a trunk lid.

How about a close-up?

350 badge is a nice touch.

One more look at that top.

Interior is stock and in okay condition, but not amazing, by any stretch.

Custom wood!

Here’s the none-too-tidy V6, which apparently has a newish carb.

We hope this isn’t the functioning fuel tank, but we’re not sure and we’d put nothing past this car. Note the extent to which the cabin is open to the elements!
