A Fittingly French Sale?

If you are a Citroen CX fan, this is the one to have – the GTI Turbo 2.  The turbocharged, intercooled 2.5-liter four cylinder put out 168HP, which was nothing to sneeze at in the mid- to late-80s.  And, of course, wacky French styling comes standard, inside and out.  What makes this a fittingly French sale?  The seller is named Francois.  That’s legit.

Some of these found their way into the US back in the day, and this one does say “US Model” under the hood, but I’m not sure how much that means.   Given the 1988 model year, the federal government shouldn’t cause any problems with this car, but certain states might?

The seller provides a nicely detailed description of the car, including a number of minor faults, none of which should stop an interested enthusiast.  I suspect the hard to find parts aren’t so hard to find if one can read a little French, but I could be wrong.

Classic Citroen styling!

In 80s fashion, the badges on the rear have plenty to say.

Ah yes, the one-spoke Citroen steering wheel and some sort of fancy, ATM-like upper dash.

Gauges are surprisingly normal for a Citroen.  I wonder what makes the STOP light activate (brake light, presumably?).  Yes, the steering wheel says TURBO!

Turbo four has cool intake runners and, of course, the spare tire is stored in the engine compartment.

If you thought the wheels looked too normal, you were right.  Here are some suitably odd Citroen wheels.  If you run these, be prepared to pay Coker Tire a lot of money for TRX tires to fit.

Hello

Here is my 1988 Citroen CX GTI Turbo 2, what was considered the top of the line of the cx series that was born in 1974 to replace the DS and the last model to be designed by Citroen before their purchase by Peugeot.

THIS CAR IS A 1988, E-BAY WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE VIN( VF7MANK0005NK2517) AND NOT A 1978, THANK YOU

I purchased this car on a whim about a year and a half ago, but have not really driven it, too many cars! it is a very nice looking model, with no rust issues except for a few superficial spots on the undercarriage, the series 2 CXs were much better protected against rust.

The interior is very nice but the previous owner had replaced the headliner and the 2 front seats are leather, but not Citroen models., the engine runs very strong the clutch had been redone a while back as well as other work the previous owner did, he replaced some of the plastic pipes with copper ( I guess because plastic becomes brittle over  the years).

The good about this car:

Rare model, series 2 with better rust protection, nice body, nice interior, engine runs very well, newer clutch, brand new windshield, newer tires on 14″ rims ( the original GTI rims are included with the TRX tires), many new and used parts in trunk, runs on Kendall Hyken glacial blue fluid, an equivalent to LHM but at a fraction of the cost ( 5 gallon pail included). Previous owner had replaced suspension arms bearings, they can be an issue on these cars.

these cars are great long distance drivers, the comfort and smooth ride have no equal.

The bad or not original:

As mentioned above the 2 front seats are not Citroen, ignition switch will not start car, it has a push button start located just below the key ( Citroen HY vans all has a push button start). small hydraulic fluid leak from either steering rack or return fluid line to canister, no radio despite the fact that speakers are installed, I have not been able to find a new rear view mirror, the new windshield was just installed but the car was missing the mirror.

Car  is equipped with A/C, but I have not been able to find a belt for the compressor, ordered one from Western Hemisphere, but was out of stock. Oil gauge is “jumpy” a problem I was told is pretty normal, I guess 80’s cars whether they are Audis, Citroens, Peugeots, Bmw… suffer from the same problem 25+ years later: Cheap plastic and electrical issues ( you know all about that if you ever owned a 1983 URQuattro) It is that same electrical issue that prevents the key from starting the car.

I am listing the car at a very low starting price for the year and model, overall condition ( Citroen concours of America has a good buying guide for all Citroen and a CX GTI turbo 2 in good condition should list between $9K and $12500) with it’s 168Hp turbo engine, the car is great fun to drive and would make a great addition to any Citroen collection.

Please contact me to inspect the car, I am not a dealer, so please do not ask for shipping quotes, use 48085 to get quotes on line or thru e-bay.

Please take the bidding seriously, I will make myself available for inspections or test drive and will answer all questions as fast as possible. The CX is 26 years old and therefore sold “as is” with no warranty.

Thank you

Happy motoring

Francois

PS: the car was sold over a month ago due to non-payment I have to relist it. so please make sure you are ready to fulfill the purchase, the car is packed will all spare parts, manuals…and ready to go.
