The Original Brick in Wagon Form

Here we have a rarely-seen-in-this-condition Volvo 140 series.  Even better, it’s the 145, which means a five-door wagon!  Even better, it’s a four-speed wagon.

The Volvo 240 gets a lot of attention and is the most commonly referenced Brick, but it all started with the 140.  As many know, a 142 is a two-door coupe/sedan, a 144 is a four-door and a 145 is, like our subject car, a five-door wagon.

We don’t usually post the rear of a car first, but the front 3/4 image is of such low quality that we can’t lead with it.  Regardless, this appears to be a fully restored 145.  Images are limited, but show basically new condition paint, interior and engine compartment finishes.  The Virgo wheels are nice touch and also appears to be in great shape.  Personally, I’d like to know more about what was done when and by whom and I’d like to see some restoration process photos.  Regardless, it certainly looks good in the photos.

Without a price, we can’t comment on the value story, but 140s generally don’t go over $10K in any condition. So, if this car is as good as it looks, it will likely be a lot of car for the money.  We can only hope the seller isn’t trying too hard to recoup the investment, as a 140 is not generally a profitable ‘flip’ car due to relatively low market prices.  It’s those prices, though, that make these great entry-level hobby cars.

Yep, this series started the Volvo boxy styling that would last for decade.  As a matter of fact, the 240 kept a lot of sheetmetal from this car and was sold until 1993.

This has the early 140 front end – correct for 1970.

This angle doesn’t reveal everything, but what we see is in great shape. If that’s a crack in the dash, it can be concealed with a $100 Coverlay.
The rear doors do open!

Things look remarkably clean under the hood, with many more polished items than would have been original.
