The First Infiniti Convertible

Infiniti launched in 1989 with two models: The flagship Q45 sedan and the M30 coupe.  Compared to Lexus, which launced with the ES300 and LS400 sedans, Infiniti’s was not really a volume launch strategy.  Here we have the convertible version of the M30, which launched a year or two later and, as one might guess, involved ASC converting cars in the US after they were shipping from Japan.

These only came in three colors, dark red, pearl white and black and only came with automatics transmissions and largely loaded with features.  The car was based on the Japan market Leopard, which means it shares some things with the Z31 300ZX, including RWD, engine and trans.  Those aren’t bad bones, but this car never got the turbo or manual, so it wasn’t really aimed at enthusiast driving.

So, what we have here is a super-low-mileage cruiser that is claimed to need only a few minor fixes.  The question is: what would you do with it?

Wood grain kit was added at some point and keeps this from being a true time capsule.

Great Car!  convertible Fun in the Sun.  less than 50K miles.  Body in perfect condition.  Top is electric but needs to replace a bolt in 1 arm to motor, works as manual right now.  Replacement will cost less than $100.   Radiator has a leak at the top from non use.  Replacement of radiator is $400, to fix less than $100 (Up to you).  Smog control needs a rubber tube replaced.  Nominal charge for that.  Radio works great but 1 back speaker is blown out.  Other than that this is an amazing car!  With les than 49K Miles it is really a classic.  I understand that less than 1000 were ever made.  It has been been only owned by 1 owner, a cute little ol lady from Beverly Hills! Who took impeccable care of it.
