Super 70s Widebody ‘Vette

Apparently, this is a fairly rare Eckler’s Corvette wide body.  There were kits available, but this is one of a small number of cars assembled at the shop.  The seller claims it was featured in a number of magazines, and appears to have reasonable proof (unless they all looked exactly the same).  What would you do with something as 70s as this?

If you were going to say “drive it”, you should know that this defines all show and no go.  It has a stock engine and, of all things, an automatic trans.  Sure, the 1975 ‘Vette was a performer in its day and this probably has fun, usable torque; but this was produced around the peak of smog-choked domestic slowness.  With the extent of the cosmetic mods, one might expect a bit of a performance boost.

I’m not sure paint schemes get much more 70s.  Maybe more metallic could add to it?

It’s so wide it needs three tail lights across the back!  That much be good.

Here’s the wide front with the covered, exposed headlights (as opposed to normal flip-up).

Seats are upgrades, but the interior looks otherwise stock.

The only C3 with an opening hatch was the 1982 Collector’s Edition. This is custom – maybe the best idea on this whole car?

These might be original tires.

Apparently, the engine is stock, including the cowl induction setup.

This is an extremely rare Corvette custom built in-house by Eckler’s Corvette Parts in Titusville, FL in 1978. This is not an aftermarket Eckler’s body kit installed by a local body shop…this is the real deal! It is the first in a series (serial #C0101) of approximately fifteen CR-II Can Ams first built and sold by Eckler’s in a turn-key configuration. Featured in several magazines and car shows with a prestigious prior ownership. Its unique features include: a race inspired Can Am wide body, radical tri-colored racing stripe paint job in original lacquer, triple tail lights, recessed headlights with covers, remote controlled hatchback, Monza style fuel cap, side exhaust covers, t-top with removable tinted moon-roofs, sport mirrors and Western Wheels. The Corvette remains close to 100% original and unrestored (with the exception of carpet, mufflers and Y-pipe, A/C compressor, POA valve and tires needing replacement), as when first built by Eckler’s. Matching numbers drive train with the stock (unmodified) L48 engine and TH400 automatic transmission. Fully optioned with air conditioning, power windows and door locks, remote controlled mirrors, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, deluxe interior, lighted vanity mirror, AM/FM stereo radio, shoulder safety belts and Recaro seats. Approximately 31,000 original miles. Requires minor repairs with a/c and radio and has minimal cosmetic flaws, but in exceptional all around condition for a near 40 year old car. Garaged and covered and well maintained by current owner for last 20+ years. Comes with documentation and copy of build sheet, plus much more information. Appraised at $29.5k in 1992 by Coast Corvette in Anaheim, CA. Asking price is $34.9k OBO.
