Storage unit find? Porsche 924 Martini & Rossi Edition

Here we have a seller admitting this is a flip – the car came from a storage unit auction and they say they don’t know much about it.  Here we also have a Porsche 924, a car Porschephiles love to hate.  This car was engineered by Porsche for Volkswagen, who then pulled out of the project.  Porsche went on to sell the car themselves, with an Audi 4-cylinder in all of the early units.  Major refinements came later to produce the 944, which had a true Porsche engine.  Of course, the rest of the story is the stuff of legend for those who like 50/50 weight balance and lots of power out of large displacement and/or turbocharged four cylinders.

This 924 claims to be a Martini & Rossi special edition, but the exterior photos are so lacking that we can’t tell.  Side stripes would confirm it’s one, but the seat fabric and cool blue piping also seem to be positive indicators.

While slow by any modern standard, these are rumored to be fun to drive, and they were the first in a successful line of vehicles.  The seller claims this one runs well, but we imagine there’s a lot of risk in buying fresh out of a storage auction where the history is unknown.  At $1,700, maybe there’s some negotiating room?  This is the perfect car to take to park near 911 people to annoy them.
