Exxcellent Convertible Maxima with Suicide Doors

Have you ever looked at a mid-2000s Maxima and wondered what it would look like as a convertible with suicide doors?  Wonder no more.

The seller claims this is one of one, but provides no information on what company did the conversion.  Supposedly, this has been reinforced with a hidden, steel tube structure.  Do you think that’s enough?  To make this car even better, it’s the four-seat version, which never sold well, but looks cool.  Presumably, this used to have the “skyview” roof panel; but the view is much better now.

All in all, this is an attractive car and the suicide doors seem to be well executed.  The rest of the car is mostly stock, except for custom exhaust and Infiniti wheels; so there’s not much to pick apart here except the one major decision to chop the top.    At first, we were baffled that this was in Iowa, but we were pleased to see the seller’s note that the car came out of Florida.  That’s much more fitting, although this is a bit too tasteful.

The opening bid is low enough that the market will speak on this one, although we have no idea where the reserve might be.  Also, note that we must assume there is no top, whatsoever.

Is this pretty much what you expected?

This is a good looking car from most angles, but it does beg the question “why”.

Spoiler is reasonably subtle here, but stands out more with no pillars aft of the A.

Front end is all Max, but you can tell something is missing.

Note the custom exhaust, which ditched the signature quad tips.  These aren’t exactly fart cans, but I’d rather see four tips here.

Interior isn’t wildly custom.  Seat inserts aren’t stock and, of coruse, there are the big, obvious changes in door hinges and trim around the new opening.

Yes, there’s a mini-pillar for door latching.   It all seems well finished.

Here’s a closeup of the hinge – a lot of work went into this.

Dash is all stock Maxima.

Save for intake, the VQ35 looks largely untouched.
