Anniversary Madness!

Here are some ‘interesting’ and low-mile MN12 anniversary specials that all popped up around the same time.

First, we have a 1990 Thunderbird SC 35th Anniversary Special.  This was a pretty good example of a special, in that it was reserved for supercharged SC trim.  Also, it had unique seats with alcantara before it was a household name.  Beyond that, it was just a super coupe with black paint, blue stripe and blacked out wheels.  Still, it was pretty tasteful compared to some, and these had lots ‘o torque.

This example has 77 (yes, 000074) miles on it.  So, yes, someone socked one of these away thinking it would be a collector car.  We sincerely doubt it will pull 20K, but maybe 10 to 15 isn’t crazy?  That would still be WELL above any normal SC price.  Also, this is an automatic, which could hurt (?).

Update 04/05/2013: Closed with no bids

The seller seems to be the kind of collector/borderline hoarder we envy here at Oddimotive HQ.

There’s that suede material with the blue detail.

If you wondered what these looked like new…here it is.

Blue stripe theme carried on with the exterior, but, thankfully, it was a thin stripe.  The wheels are standard SC units with black-painted centers.

Update: Ended with no bids, and we’re not surprised.

Don’t despair, here’s another, this one with 32Kmiles:

04/05/2013 update: Still $8,995 with 1 bid – reserve not met

Before we move on to the Cougars, note that there was a 1995 40th Anniversary T-Bird.  It was much less impressive vs. the 1990 vehicle, in that it had no engine requirement and, as far as we can tell, was specifically not available on the SC.  The 40th Anniversary package was basically rocker panel decals and a couple badges.  Click below for all you’ll ever want to know.

Cougar time!

Sadly, the Cougar anniversary specials were also less exciting vs. the 1990 Thunderbird.

04/05/2013 update: Ended unsold

The 1992 version had unique color and wheels.  Sadly, though, it didn’t even require a V8.  This one has the boat anchor 3.8LV6 and only 55K miles.  Pre-minor-change, these at least looked decent.  Side note: enthusiasts only really need to study the 89-90 XR-7, which was a mechanical twin to the T-Bird SC and was the only MN12 Cougar with a clutch pedal available.

Yep – two-tone tan/green interior!  They invested in changes, but I’m apparently NOT the target demographic.

$9,500 starting bid, no bids

04/05/2013 update:  Ended with no bids

This one’s just plain dull and, yes, it has the 3.8L.  Wheels and a badge or two.  Meh – the chrome trim added at this car’s minor change secured its position as thoroughly non-enthusiast.  Note that both of these Cougars are in FL…

Front seats are too offensive, but we’re not sure what’s up with the different color on the rear seat trim (lighting?).
