Why Have a Bond Bug When You Can Have a Boonie Bug?

It seems this was built from plans available in Popular Mechanics back in the day.  Underneath are some parts from a VW Bus, and, of course, it’s VW-powered. Outside, well, it’s sort of vannish, but with essentially none of the utility and a total disregard for aerodynamic efficiency.  It’s certainly interesting, however, what with the top-hinged (gullwing?) doors.  Also on the plus side, this one has some finely aged shag carpet in the cargo hold.

The seller claims to have recently installed a new engine and says this runs and drives, but needs minor brake work.  Supposedly, it never needs a smog check.  I’m thinking $9,500 is a bit rich, but it’s hard to put a value on a kit car.

Bonus:  Plans for this car might still be available!  Click here for the link.

Cockpit looks a little tired and absolutely spartan.  There’s a hint of shag in this picture, too.

THERE’S the shag carpet in all its faded glory.  Note how it wraps around the steel beams in some cases.  I guess one could sleep on this platform?

This just pretty much looks “VW” back here.

Ok dont lie to yourself you always wanted one of these. You will be the only one on your block with one, How often do you find a running complete car? This was bought from the builders estate. I have his build notebook as well as pictures during build. It was built using plans from a 1976 Popular Mechanics. Very unique. I have current pink and tags, registered as a SPNS, so no smog needed. I just installed a fresh 1835 ( less than 50 miles ) with a single weber and compufire ign. It is built on an early VW bus chassis, so it has a RGB trans, it shifts well. It will need brakes cause a wheel cylinder started leaking. Currently runs and drives. Email with questions or if you need other pictures. Check short video on youtube @ M4H03746 – YouTube Car is in the San Diego area, pick up only. $9,500 thanks.
