V12 + 6MT = Greatness

Many of you could guess what this is by the title, but I should specify that it’s not a modified XJS or an expensive Italian car.  It was once an expensive German car and now it’s in the category of temptingly cheap, yet frightening, from a maintenance perspective.

The 850 was the replacement for BMW’s successful 6-Series and arrived with the 1990s.  BMW took the series higher in price and content – this was basically a competitor to the already-old Porsche 928 as a true grand touring car, although this has a two-door sedan layout vs. the Porsche’s hatchback.  Big news here was a V12 engine, surprisingly available with a manual transmission!  That trans was available on the US market 850CSI with 372 HP, which was insane in the early 90s.  It’s not clear to me what engine spec this European version has, but it won’t be a slouch and the seller claims it’s road legal in CA.
This car appears to be in great shape, although the seller discloses little – not even an odometer reading.  You’ll have to check it out and see if the higher-than-average asking price is justified here.

Woodland Hills (the California town, not the Tulsa mall)
$21,900
Seats look supportive in true “golden era” BMW fashion.
As with the 6-series before it, the 8er featured rear buckets with console.
Money shot!
And an engine shot, for good measure.  I’m not sure how the intakes were originally routed, but I have to wonder if the seller created a ‘warm air’ intake system here?  At least they’re in front of the manifolds…

I have decided to sell my unicorn; a rare 1991 BMW 850i with a 6 speed manual transmission (yes, you read it right, manual) and sport package. A true collectors car!
As all E31 fans know, this one has a V12 under the hood with nothing less than a full REMUS exhaust system.
For years I have been restoring it little by little and finally, after so many years, it’s ready to go.
The Car was imported from Europe years ago and now it’s fully register in California; the plates are up to date.
The sport seats, rear trunk spoiler, Remus exhaust, front and rear bumper and manual transmission where option only available on the US in the 850CSi package, but this one has them all factory!
Drives like a dream, sounds like a dream, looks absolutely astonishing inside out, the best BMW car ever made!
Price is $21,900
