This Ain’t No Maxima!

Well, okay, it more-or-less IS a Maxima  This was the end of the 190HP run, so it doesn’t even have the five horsepower advantage of the 1999 model.  Still, the important thing here is that it’s a luxury version of a Maxima with a manual transmission!  Yes, folks, it was once possible to get an I30t – for touring – with a clutch pedal.

This would be a good car for someone with lots of skill and an extra VQ30 V6 lying around.  Basically, at 300K, a buyer should assume an engine rebuild or swap will be needed before too long.  Still, one could just keep running (and maintaining) it until something happens.  It sounds like it had a head gasket question that was somewhat questionably fixed.  Could it be warped?

The I30t came with the spoiler and these Q45-esque wheels, which are a nice touch.

The front end was unique vs. Maxima – at least in the US market.  Europeans will notice no difference, as this was sold as the Maxima there.

The rear was also unique, though it’s likely there were no sheetmetal differences.

Yes, this was fairly luxurious at the time.  Not so much now, and not just because the driver’s seat is worn.

Apparently, this head unit still works, but ‘needs to be replaced’.  Maybe that’s due to the missing button?  Good news is this double-din slot will take the latest and greatest aftermarket navigation unit with CarPlay…

Anyone who owned a 90s Nissan knows these controls.  Your host had ’em in a 1993 Sentra SE-R.

The seller has included this image to prove this is a documented almost-300K mile car.

Here’s the VQ30.
