The First Front-Wheel-Drive Nissan is also One of the Ugliest Cars Ever Made

Many Datsuns from the 70s have seen demand and prices go up (moderately, mind you) ever since the 510 was ‘rediscovered’ several years ago.  In fact, enthusiasts know that the 510 was always desirable – it had an eager engine and great handling for its time, which led to a great race history.  That has brought up some of the other models, given their rear-wheel drive and easy engine swaps.  The F10, however, was Nissan’s first experiment with front-wheel drive and thus tends to live at the bottom of the food chain.  This and the 70s 200SX vie for ugliest US Nissan product ever, but I tend to give the edge to this one.

The seller claims this car can be driven anywhere in the  US.  That’s a strong claim from someone in one corner of the Country.  It looks like this is an ‘all there’ car with cosmetic needs.  Personally, I think these look ugly enough to be cool.  While driving dynamics won’t be anything to write home about, this would be a cool, funky cruiser and, with a little cleanup, would be the type of Cars and Coffee car that would prompt people to ask “why was it preserved or saved?”  If the seller can be talked down just a bit, this might not be worth it. I’d sure want to know what ‘minimal rust’ means to the seller, however.

Here’s that awkward profile again, in a larger file size.  Was the front third of this car parked under a carport?

The front ends on these have exaggerated headlight shapes, due to large surrounds.  A strange choice.

Moving to the rear, we see what I  consider the trademark feature – overdone, massive taillights which match the oddball shape of the headlights.

Interior looks pretty cool and this car appears to have a factory tach.  The steering wheel is downright sporty.  Someone might have been ‘in’ the wiring, based on the left hand side of this image.

Hmm…more signs of wiring work.  That could be cause for concern.
