The Car I Like to Call the Lotus Eclair

Many of our readers may know that the Lotus Elite of the 50s/60s was one of the most beautiful sports cars ever made and had the track credit to match.  We previously posted a 70s Elite and noted that it was, well, nothing like its predecessor.  Today’s subject car is the Eclat, which was a fastback sister product to the 70s Elite.

Compared to the later Elite, this is a beautiful car!   By any other standard, however, I’d consider the styling fairly boring, though it must be noted this style was a bit ahead of its time.  Frankly, it looks like a 1980s car, but it launched in 1974.  More to the point, these are featherweights with a delightful twin-cam Lotus four cylinder and handle like, well, Loti.  So, maybe it is an Eclair.  In American terms, it looks just like any chocolate long john doughnut, but what’s inside is what makes it so much better, whether that’s filling or a Lotus twin-cam.

There are no interior shots, but the seller indicated it’s been pulled out and is at the upholsterer.  That’s an interesting time to sell, but who am I to question the seller?  Is this worth $4?  It’s hard to say without more info and images.  The biggest thing to look for would be rusted out subframes, as these are known for that. Next, of course, would be confirming good compression.
