Post-Scirocco VW Sport Coupe Goodness

Off and on, Volkswagen has played in the sport coupe arena in the US.  The Scirocco replaced the very long-lived Karmann Ghia in 1974 and lived through two fairly long generations before being replaced by this, the Corrado.  Early Corrados, like this one, featured a supercharged I4 engine and were called G60s.  Later, the highly-regarded VR6 engine replaced it.  Generally, these VR6-powered SLC models are the most desirable today, but we here at Oddimotive like the quirkiness of a factory-supercharged VW.

This Corrado appears to be in great shape and is fairly unmolested – both rare claims with these cars.  Mileage is assumed fairly low here, as the odometer stopped at 127K miles and the owner claims that was two years ago.  Given the age of the car, that probably won’t mess up the title.

What you need to know about this car is that the horn will honk if you try to start it without the clutch pedal fully depressed.  Did other VWs do that??

For VW – and really all 90s sport Compact fans – this is an iconic profile.

For some reason, the front 3/4 shot is blurry…oh well.

Rear view is best know for the subtle spoiler, which raises at speed or at the flip of a switch.  Exhaust is not stock here – it’s a little large for my tastes, but could be worse.

Odometer shows a bit over 127K miles, but stopped working, E30-style.

A friend and coworker had an SLC in the late 90s and I remember this funky door panel pattern.

25th Anniversary and still running strong. This Tornado Red G60 Corrado is one of the most unique and gorgeous cars on the road. It was my dream car in high school, but I don’t have the space to keep it any more. Car is very clean and in very good condition. Odometer reads 127,163 miles but stopped working about two years ago. Car rides nicely and has recently gone through nearly $3,000 in work. Work done by Roger’s German Automotive in Downey, CA. Have all receipts. New gas pump, new battery, recent oil change, completely redone seats in front and back. Paint is very clean, but has the usual signs of a 25-year old vehicle. $7500. Call/Text Kirk.
