Is The Price Ever Right for a Mitsubishi Mirage?

We say yes, if it’s a Mirage Turbo from almost thirty years ago (hey, look, a dedicated site!). With this new one, however, we’re not so sure. That being said, we at Oddimotive are drawn to this product’s unique position as a true sub-subcompact – essentially the most basic thing one can buy.

The car in question was a prize on, you guessed it, The Price Is Right! The seller apparently has no desire for a new car (at least one with a CVT) and is selling it with a little bit of TV hype. Still, the price isn’t crazy vs. MSRP, though we wonder about transaction price.

Normally, vehicle details go here. In this case, it’s basically a new car with 300 miles on it. We recommend checking out dealer asking prices and incentives to figure out actual transaction prices for these before bidding; but, just remember that this is a one (or maybe twice?) in a lifetime opportunity to have someone else’s story attached to your car! Isn’t that priceless?

Here’s the pickup shot at the dealer, who might have been quite happy to “move” a Mirage.

The car used on the show was white. Apparently, they don’t make the winners drive the prizes off the stage and home.

Showcase showdown, baby!

Have you ever heard of “THE PRICE IS RIGHT”?

This car is one of a kind–it was won on The Price is Right! That’s correct, you are bidding on a vehicle from the winner of the showcase showdown on the Price is Right!

So my wife and I went on a mini-vacation to Los Angeles. We thought it would be fun to watch the taping of a few shows. We stood in line in the Price is Right (PIR) for several hours and when they admitted the audience into the studio, we were nearly the last ones in and as we barely got settled into our seats, the show began. We didn’t expect, nor go to the taping, for one of us to become a contestant when we heard them call her name. She was the fourth of the first four contestants called “ON DOWN”. She eventually moved on to the showcase showdown and won her showcase, which included a Mitsubishi Mirage ES. The taping was March 14, 2017 and wasn’t aired until June 2nd. This car is, for all practical purposes, BRAND NEW.

The PIR got ahold of a local Mitsubishi dealer the week the show aired and sent them payment for the car and my wife received a phone call to pick it up. When we arrived to pick up the car, they had already selected a brand new red model, which suited my wife, since she loves red cars, although on the PIR it was a white model, which obviously is like any showroom display, not the actual item you’d be receiving.
This car is one of a kind. You will have fun in any conversation as you share your story of how you purchased this car. “Yeah, it’s kind of cool, I bought this car from a woman who won it on the Price is Right! It’s brand new! She didn’t need it, she already had a car she loved and her husband had bought himself a new car last March.”
