Gelandejetero

Here we have a seller with a sense of humor,or at least we hope so.  Some of you may remember that the Dodge Raider was a two-door Mitsubishi Montero (Pajero to the rest of the world), but when’s the last time you saw one, or even thought of one?

The seller of this beauty provides a lot of details about his purchase, repairs and upgrades, but there is no mention of the conversion to a Mercedes Gelandawagen (AKA G-Class) wannabe.  That makes it a Gelandawagen AKA Raider AKA Pajero AKA Montero.

$2,750 BIN
07/16/2013 update:  NOT sold.  Appears to have been  relisted, but later removed by seller…might it have sold?

Red-painted  drums are a nice touch!

“G500 M”?  Seems the seller had a source for cheap AMG badges, but not a real G55 or G63 badge.

Mercedes wannabe theme continues to the steering wheel.

Mitsubishi inclinometer is cooler than anything ever in a real G-Wagen.

Every winter I take on a “project”, car, motorcycle, etc, something to keep me busy during the long winter.  I have done approximately 15 cars/motorcycles. This was last winter’s project. I have a rule not to buy vehicles from northern cities (Chicago/NY, Detroit, etc) because of the salt used in the winters but I made the exception on this one (came from Chicago) because it had a solid frame, good interior, low miles, no body damage, min. rust (rockers) and besides, these things are rare. The Raider was made for Dodge by Mitsubishi, and I’ve had 2 Mitsubishis’ (one Dodge Colt, one Raider) and I’d still be driving them if the frames hadn’t rusted. The Colt had over 400k miles on it, so I know for a fact they are almost indestructible.

I flew into Chicago and drove this back-70 mph and got about 32mpg. It has a V6, 3.0 ( a lot of power) automatic w/OD, 4×4, A/C (not currently working-I seldom use A/C). I tore it down to the body, seats were not torn, but stitching was weak, so I took the seats apart and sent them to the local upholster for stitching, shampooed all carpets, seats, headliner, fixed the rockers (if interested, I can send photos of all rusted areas I repaired), put 4 new tires on it, buffed out the paint, repainted the rockers and roof with “pebble paint (same stuff used by Jeep on their hardtops), did a major tune-up, new brakes, had the transmission flushed and filter replaced, built the front bumper-the original one had a non repairable dent in it- and it is made of 1/4” tube steel (very heavy duty).

All Raiders rust in the rear fender wells right where the seat belt attaches, and this was no exception, so all metal was cut out, new installed and completely rust-proofed ( I have photos). I have 100% feedback on my eBay account because I don’t try to hide anything-it’s not worth it to me to sell/trade a vehicle under false pretensions.

Everything works (except A/C). The “maint re’q” light is on, but I can’t find the reset button, so it has a piece of black tape over it (I hate red lights on my dash). The horn works, but only when it wants to and sometimes when I don’t want it to, so until I sort out the short (it’s in the steering wheel), it is currently disconnected. The seat belt light comes on when you put the seat belt on, so I am thinking the horn/seatbelt problem is linked together. There is a slight hum in the transfer case drive shaft (that’s where my mechanic thinks it’s at) so I have purchased a replacement transfer case, but haven’t installed it (I’ve been out of town). The E brake will be replaced when the transfer case comes out also since it currently is not repairable as it is, and I have also purchased the replacement part for E brake handle.  The “hum” only started when I installed the 4 new tires.

I tinted the windows (not represented in the photos attached) and parked it outside so the sun could “set” the tint.  I have changed the color of the roof to match the rockers and bumper tips, so the roof is dark gray now instead of black-looks a lot better.  It is painted in pebble paint and requires washing only-no waxing. Paint is original, shines great, but has its share of small dents and scratches.

If you want photos of rust I repaired send me your regular email and I will forward them to you.  I will consider a trade for a VW Vanagon, but no junk or rust buckets.  You can fly into Columbus, OH airport (I’ll pick you up) and drive it home-it’s great on the road and has an awesome stereo.  It has a clear Ohio title and comes with the original owner’s manual.

No PAY-PAL, $100 deposit due within 48 hours of sale-cashiers check drawn on major USA bank, or cash at time of pick-up.  I can deliver for a fee, all expenses paid in advance.  The vehicle is listed locally so I reserve the right to cancel the auction before auction end.  No warranties are expressed nor implied.  If you have less than 100% feedback, no buying/selling history, you must contact me b/4 bidding or I will cancel your bid.  Ask questiopns b/4 bidding.
