Frog or Prinz?

The NSU Prinz was one of several microcars from Germany in the late 50s and 60s.  Germany was rebuilding and these tiny cars brought transportation to the masses at a low price.  NSU would later be purchased by Audi, but this car was made before that.  This example needs a full restoration, but most of it is there and the seller claims it runs.

If it really does run well, it would be fun to get the mechanical bits completely sorted and drive this as-is for a while.  Microcars have been hot, but is $6K+ okay for a Prinz restoration candidate?  Would you take on this project?

Front styling gives away the rear-engine nature, what with a lack of grill.  Good news is the windshield is included in the sale.

Which way is forward?  From the side, it’s not easy to tell.

Rear styling is pretty conventional for the time.  Where would one source taillights?

Interior is microcar simple and what’s there appears salvageable.

This even has a radio, though I’m not sure it’s original…

Here’s the rear-mounted, air-cooled twin.  Supposedly, it runs…

Here is a rare 1960 micro car made in Germany by NSU the Prinz. If I am not mistaking NSU made 2 version of the prinz, a longer version with a larger rear windows divided in 2 sections and a shorter one, this is the shorter or smaller version. This is an original California black plated car. Black plates are in the front and the back and they are listed on the title so that means that they stay, go with the car and the car can be registered with those plates. This micro car is in need of a full restoration. I believe the original color was black though was painted white at some point. The whole car seems to be solid with the exception of the floor panel. Not all the entire floor panel is heavily rusted although there are some parts that have holes. I have taken several pictures of the floor panel though i can take additional pictures if requested. This micro car seems pretty simple to be put on back together. It seems pretty complete with the exception of a few scattered items. In any case an original “instruction book for Prinz owners” and a “workshop manual for NSU Prinz 1 to 4 4L, Sport from 1956-71” is included in the auction. Pictures of both books are shown. Even though this is a running car and the engine sounds pretty good, the mechanical part needs to be gone thru. Front original Windshield is also included, the weatherstripping got too dry so we pulled the glass off for fear to fall and break. I guess these windshields are hard to come by. Also the rear seat is there and in decent condition. In some of the pictures the rear seat is off thought we put it back on. Original jack and spare rim are also present. This micro car s located inside my warehouse in Gardena so I can take additional and more detailed pictures f needed. A local inspection is very welcome and  suggested.
