A first for us: Subaru FF-1 Star

We’ve never seen one of these, but it was Subaru’s first venture beyond the microcar and also its first production use of a flat 4 engine.  Internet resources indicate it was sold as the Star in the US and the FF-1 elsewhere.  Unfortunately, the pictures with this auction are small and not of great quality, but it’s enough to tell us this is a cool little oddity.  There were a few body styles available, and this is the sporty two-door.

We don’t have much to go on, but the price seems high given that it’s been sitting and it not known to run.

Seller Notes:”The car has been parked in back yard for 11 or 12 years. The owner was a USAF pilot. He died flying. He kept a log on this car just like a true USAF pilot. The log book is in my position along with the original Drivers Handbook. Made in Japan. It was the first year Subaru made a 4 cylinder. All the past years were 2 cylinder. The wife of the pilot still works with my wife. For the honor of one of our hero’s a USAF pilot. Someone that I could pass on the baton.I know this car will start. All the windows and mirrors are there, no cracks. She gave me the car very recently. And after doing research on the vehicle, I realized that out of 2000 made there are not very many left. There are some serious Subaru clubs in this country, especially in California. This car is in need of a true Subaru fan that has a love for these vintage cars. The sits are in good condition, black leather. two things missing, breather cover and the Star needs a little body work and wall to wall carpet.and tags updated”

The car has been parked for the last ten to 12 years. !t was covered for the most part.It had 240,893 miles when the speed odometer broke in March of 1996, his last log was 8-10-99. The tires were still up, we put a little more air and towed to my house. Needs body work. no major dents, some scrapes. Seats are good, needs carpet, actually needs wall to wall carpet. the dash is not bad, a little cleaning and gluing is all it needs.Needs tires, It was running when was parked. I estimate it had 270,000 miles when parked, I don’t think the motor has ever been touched. Everything is small  on this car. If all the oils are changed and the fuel system is completely cleaned before starting, I believe it will start and drive. I thought about it myself..My partner noticed how well the car handled when we were towing it, like a track car he said, they were raced back in the day.I took alot of pictures of the car, i will send them if i can.
