1987 Toyota Corollup

Here we have an example of one of our favorite categories of oddimobiles – hatchbacks (usually shitboxes) converted into pickups. This is a strangely common phenomenon, with seemingly half of the world’s remaining Ford Festivas converted into pickups. Good news here is a supercharged JDM (yo!) 1.6L was swapped into this bad boy, which also features a 5-speed manual with limited slip differential.

The seller describes this as an eight-year conversion process with the end result being a vehicle in need of “restoration.” Take what you wish from that, but we do think this is a cool, little two-seater. It’s sure to weigh less than stock, although weight removed from the rear will not create more balance.

This wears its pickup conversion fairly well!
Of course, the bed is tiny, tiny tiny.
Did we say tiny?
The interior is all there, but we imagine the seat covers are protecting pristine originals. Note the odd choice of a Hurst t-handle shifter.
There is some room behind the seats, but it’s currently occupied by a speaker box. The seller seems to be more attached to the 12-inch woofers than to the car.
Here’s the Japanese market (JDM, bro), supercharged I4. This could have been in a later Corolla in that market and, depending upon its origins, put out between 143 and 170 horsepower – plenty for this little car.

1987 Toyota Corolla FX – Camino Conversion titled as 1988 Toyota Tercel

If you are looking for a unique project vehicle you have found it! This Corolla conversion took place roughly 8 years ago and is ready to be restored. Not only was the rear hatch of this FX model Corolla removed, the factory drive train was replaced with a JDM 4AGZE 1.6L Supercharged engine from an AE92 model along with a E58 LSD 5 speed manual transmission. The running condition of the engine and transmission are in good working order. If you don’t want to mess with the body and are looking for a 4AGZE & LSD transmission then this will be perfect for you. This is a DLI AFM engine w/ complete running harness & ECU. You can drive it and test it out before you pull to use elsewhere!

Please review the list below. If you have a question please ask. I want you to know what you are bidding on. Buyer is responsible for pickup/delivery of vehicle.

Body:
Rocker panels PS & DS need rust repair
PS & DS rear fender area need rust repair
Conversion area on roof and near DS & PS quarter panels need refinished
Liner used in truck bed is pulling away in areas

Suspension:
Front struts need replaced

Engine:
When I purchased the vehicle the fuel pump & the front coil pack had no power. I ran both to an accessory that provides power when the ignition is in the on position. I have not traced down the exact cause of the loss of power. The vehicle starts, runs, drives fine so you will be able to hear it run.
Supercharger carries 8 lbs of boost
Good oil pressure
Starts and idles smoothly after 3 cranks
No ticks or knocks
No dash lights

Transmission:
No issues. Clutch feels fine. Both front tires spin.

Drive Axles:
I believe the DS has a bad CV Joint. The vehicle has AE101 LSD shafts.

Lights:
All lights work except the DS tail light.

Exhaust:
Complete without any holes

Tires:
Have good usable tread

Interior:
Front seats are in good condition. They have been covered by seat covers. Carpet is clean just needs vacuumed. Custom speaker box houses 2 12’s & 2 6×9’s. There are 6×9’s but no 12’s. Radio works. Dash is clean. Gauges work. Heat works. Minor tears on ds & ps door panels.
