Shifty Panther: 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis with Manual Swap

The Panther platform had a very long life, mostly underneath taxis, police cars and grandparental transport. These offered rear-wheel drive and periodically attracted enthusiasts off and on over the years, with the Mercury Marauder being the ultimate factory iteration. One thing all factory versions had in common, however, was an automatic transmission. That’s been corrected in this example!

Rolling Weenie: Six-Wheeled 1991 Geo Metro Stretch

The pictures speak volume here, but we do like a couple quotes from the ad:

“Custom fabricated by a Boeing airplane manufacturer ”

“With 6 wheels and three cylinders it’s not the fastest car in the world. Steep grades you have to drop into third at around 40-50mph”

“Leaks oil typical for a 91′” Continue reading Rolling Weenie: Six-Wheeled 1991 Geo Metro Stretch

Mid-Engine, Manually-Shifted Van: 1991 Previa

Sure, it looks like an egg, but we respect the Previa. What other minivan has offered a mid-engine layout, manual trans, supercharger and all-wheel drive? Sadly, one couldn’t combine all of these concepts, as it seems all supercharged Previas were of the automatic, rear-wheel drive variety.  Today’s feature is a rare one with its five-speed manual.  The addition of Lexus SC430 “pie plate” wheels is an added bonus.  We stand by previous claims that this is among the five ugliest OEM wheels ever offered.

This is a 231K mile van, but it’s a Toyota, so maybe it’s just getting broken in. The seller has had quite a bit of maintenance done recently, but anyone buying should assume this high mileage vehicle will occasionally need attention. That means anyone buying should be prepared to take to YouTube for videos on how to get to the engine for even the most basic of services. It is, after all, located under the floor between the front seats.

Here’s the delightfully odd profile and those hideous wheels. Oh, those wheels.

Odd from every angle (which is to say we love it).

Sorry, there’s no S/C badge on the right rear corner of this’un.

This money shot shows the manual shifter.  We assume seats look like the inside of a pumpkin when we see cheap seat covers used for hiding.

How about one more show of that shifter and a touch of dash. It looks like a double DIN head unit will fit here. That means Android Auto can bring you all the modern technology you need!

Here’s the third row. The second has been removed, but that’s a temporary issue.

Here’s the second row, which appears to be in great shape.

Yes, there’s cargo space behind that third row!

“Stoopid” 1990 S10 Blazer with Supercharged SBC Swap and Too Much Yellow

This is not subtle, not understated; but we like the swap. Can it be saved?

Someone put a lot of time and money into this truck and the work looks to have been well done.  We wonder what it would cost to change this to more of a sleeper look in black or another dark color.

The engine is a Corvette-sourced 350, though we’re not sure of the generation.  A Paxton supercharger was added for good measure and the seller claims 400HP. Regardless of actual output, that should be a big upgrade vs. the 160HP 4.3L V6, which was standard in 1990.

Given the interior was treated to way too much yellow, we think this only has potential if it stays close to $5K, as we’d want to paint it and reupholster. If, however, you like yellow, this may have more value to you.

The body has been converted to panel delivery, which is interesting, and it looks like a speaker panel (or box?) has replaced the back seat. We’d make different decisions there, too, as this isn’t IASCA in 1991. That being said, the seller indicates that the stereo is “optional and extra”, so there’s hope.

Our biggest concern is that the images are all taken in a garage. Does this truck actually move under its own power?  Claimed mileage is 64K, but we don’t know if that’s the truck (likely) or the engine.

Graphics don’t ooze taste or subtlety anymore than the color; but the panel delivery conversion is pretty cool.

Here’s the name inspiration.  Most will agree, some using the literal interpretation, and others the street version.

Obligatory Corvette-inspired “roll pan” with tail lights is present, as one would assume.  After all, this is a modified GM truck product from the 90s.

350 badge is pretty cool.

The overdone yellow theme carries over into the interior, unfortunately.

How ’bout them speakers?

And them speakers?  It’s strange that unfinished particle board is present here, given all the yellow elsewhere in the interior.

Small block Chevy swaps are fairly common in these S10 Blazer and this looks pretty well done.

Here’s the small Paxton supercharger.

Rear-Wheel Drive, Manual and T-Tops: Suzuki X90

We’ve featured a few X90s in the past because, frankly, we can’t pass them up.  The X90 is perhaps the least likely vehicle to have made some level of mass production in the last twenty years (give or take).  While we’d love to have one in the Oddimotive stable, we have to confess that the X90 is also the least performance-oriented answer to the question of what has RWD, a clutch pedal and t-tops.

Today’s example is a bit of time capsule, as mileage is very low and it appears to be in great shape.  Supposedly, this is an estate-sale car.  We’re not sure whether the previous owner was embarrassed to drive this or truly cherished it, but the relatively high bidding price (so far) indicates that it will be cherished in the future.  This car has a funky color and goofy interior trim, as it should.  The only thing missing is four-wheel-drive; but this isn’t likely to get out in the messy stuff, anyway.

Here’s that unmistakable shape in a funky purple-blue color.

The rear reveals the very flat rear glass, tiny deck lid and spoiler.  Note the T-Top.

The interior looks like it’s in great shape, but could use a vacuum.  The layout is basic, functional 90s.

Here’s the door trim.  We hope the seats are just as delightfully odd.

Ultra low production number being the 57th off the line.

What a cool car!! Constantly gets attention where ever it is driven!  You cant get gas without people starting a conversation.  This vehicle is still ahead of its time to THIS DAY!

Mint condition and cared for with pride.  A one of a kind with the super low miles and most importantly the condition.  This will bring smiles to you face every time you drive it.

Zero cracks in dash, Garaged and owned by an adult woman.  This was only a summer car that she drove here in CT.  Unfortunately, the only reason this vehicle is up for sale is because the owner has passed away and being listed as part of her estate.

 IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!

Answer to eBay member question:

A: I have the sun shades and the bags or protective covers that the t-tops slide in to. I have everything that came from the factory. NO, they are not for sale. The shades will be going along with x-90 to the new owner.

Quickie: 1993 Centurion Ford Bronco Dually

Talk about a tease!  Here we have one of the rare Centurion four-door Bronco conversions, apparently set up as a dually.  Sadly, that’s about all we know about it…

The ad does indicate that the truck has an automatic trans (no surprise) and gas engine.  To get any more info, you have to call Charlie.

The interwebs contain some images of other Centurion duallies, but it’s not clear whether they were a custom-ordered add-on or were part of the normal offering.  Given the non-matching fenders on the subject car, this one appears to have been modified at home.  The wheels also appear to have come from a dually donor truck.  What else under this one has been changed?

Cowavanagon, Dude!

We don’t need to add much here – this is a 1990 Vanagon converted into some sort of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles party van.

The concept is bizarre, but we love certain quotes from the run-on description:

“In addition to this auction I am including a replica Leonardo suit from the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Motion Picture Movie.”  (Yes, that’s a motion picture movie)

“All head rests are custom to represent each respective ninja turtle and their weapon of choice.” (I’d be pissed if this was not the case)

Supposedly, the stock 2.1 liter Wasserboxer H4 has recently been rebuilt.  This features an automatic transmission; so it’ll be even slower than most.

Yes, there’s this.

This is pretty much the only side view included. We’re not sure how those windows work as far as actual visibility.

Rear view reveals the custom spoiler (useful at the van’s ~80MPH top speed?) and more of the odd window treatment.  Maybe Turtles fans will understand the graphics.

Yes, this van has a mouth.  Also, the suit is included in the sale!

Front features custom leather and seat belts!

Here’s the rear seat with custom leather and those “interesting” head restraints.

Interior shots here aren’t the best, but you get the idea.

Yes, this has added subwoofers!

Donkilicious Cadillac Fleetwood Limo

Because the 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood just wasn’t outlandish enough when stock, we hereby present one made into both a donk and a limo.

There’s not much we need to add here. This is an already-giant Caddy Fleetwood stretched and then made into a donk. Be sure to take a look at the videos in the ad text below!

Yes, there’s a limo in this shot…

Confidence-inspiring handling?

Can these brakes REALLY stop this thing?

Here’s one shot where things aren’t 100% f’ed up.

Then there’s this.

Note the leather, which seems to match nothing else.

Lots of MB Quart goodies and zero cargo capacity!

Even a few bits are color-keyed under the hood, though you’ll need a ladder to confirm.

Highly Customized Suzuki X90

Because the Suzuki X90 just wasn’t weird enough on its own, this one has been modified into a wanna-be off roader. Despite the 39-inch super swampers, the seller advises that this car is for “sunny day driving, or mild to moderate off roaring.”  The sunny day warning relates to the complete lack of a top and side windows.

Needless to say, this customization has taken place in Florida.

Underneath all the weirdness is a 135K mile X90, which means a simple and serviceable powertrain.  Note, however, that the seller points out that the automatic (ugh) no longer shifts into overdrive.  That sounds like a great excuse for a manual swap.  This is offered as a running, but incomplete, project, as it sounds like the interior and electrical system are not finished.

The X90 was always a two-seater, and one might wonder if this conversion ended up with more seating, like this one.  In this case, however, any extra space created was used for a ridiculous audio system using what appear to be only the finest of pawn shop brands.  After all, where do you even get “one 18″ subwoofer, two 15″ subwoofers, two 10″ subwoofers, and four 8″ three way speakers”?

Given the 1.6-liter four cylinder is still present, this intake must be only for show.  I’ll give the seller this: no one would guess this was an X90.

The rear is also completely customized.  This seems to be mimicking a side-by-side ATV.

Seats look straight out of a buggy, which is pretty cool.  This is also our only shot of he speakers. Note that there’s no mention of a head unit or amps.  We’re not sure how one would wire this up.

Ad text:

Up for sale is this totally customized 1996 Suzuki X-90. It obviously is not finished. It does however, run and drive. You can physically get in it turn the key, start it up,and drive down the road. This is not an everyday vehicle, although it is street legal. There is no roof, or side windows. It is made for sunny day driving, or mild to moderate off roaring. It has brand new 39.5″ Super Swampers, a stock 1.6 litre 4 cylinder engine that runs great, and does not leak or burn oil. There is enough room for a V6 engine swap, if you wish to do so. It has a custom made speaker box that contains one 18″ subwoofer, two 15″” subwoofers, two 10″ subwoofers, and four 8″ three way speakers. It also has a new battery. It has a four speed overdrive transmission, however there is an issue with it. Tough gear (overdrive) will not engage. It does however shift fine in first through third gear. The electronics in the interior need to be installed, and wired up, the rest of the interior pieces need to be bolted in, and the bodywork needs to be finished. This will make someone a great one of a kind, go almost anywhere fun vehicle. I could not get any decent pictures to load from my computer, so I took these ( with no flash available) for now. I will add good pictures asap!
