Mercury Turbo Wagon – this is what Oddimotive is all about

Here we have a beautifully done custom swap of a Ford/Mercury 2.3 turbo I4 into a Mercury Marquis wagon.

This combination was never offered by Mercury, but looks like it would be a lot of fun.  The owner even swapped in a T-5 manual.  We’re not even sure  there was a manual Marquis available.  Note that Mercury did offer this engine in the Cougar XR-7 for a few years, so this is not the only 2.3L turbo Merc.

Update: Ended with no bids

Mustang wheels look great, but 1987-1988 XR-7 wheels would have Mercury center caps.  Hmmm.

Subtle badge is a great touch, though the Supertrap muffler gives away a bit of non-stockness.

A few extra gauges, but otherwise the interior looks pretty stock.  Is there a tach?  It would be interesting to see if a Cougar wheel center could help de-Ford this.

The 1984 Turbo Coupe version of the 2.3 turbo didn’t have the highest output, but likely can offer a lot with minimal upgrades.

This is a 1986 Mercury Marquis wagon that has had a 2.3turbo and t5 5 speed from a 1984 thunderbird turbo coupe swapped into it, This car started out as a very clean , very straight , rust free original car, I swapped the 3.8v6 and c5 trans for the 2.3turbo and t5 trans, along with the swap I also rebuilt the rear with 3.73 gears added a rear sway bar and a larger front sway bar with urethane bushings, The clutch, hoses, brakes, etc… have all been rebuilt or replaced, The chassis has 130,000 miles and the drivetrain has about 70,000 on it, The engine is mostly stock except for an adjustable cam pulley and a more free flowing exhaust with a Supertrapp adjustable muffler, The body on the car is extremely straight, The paint is very nice and mostly original(it has been touched up here and there over the years) The bumpers are straight and the chrome and stainless trim are near perfect, The interior is almost perfect except for the drivers seat which has a few split seams on the bottom, and the headliner is starting to sag, The dash panels and center console are from the 84 thunderbird and a custom gauge panel houses the gauges, The t5 trans is shifted with a Hurst shifter, It is running 90gt wheels with almost new 235/60/15 Bf Goodrich tires, Everything on the car functions exactly as it should with the exception of the rear windows(never looked at them but I suspect something with the switch)and the temp gauge doesn’t work(I accidently pulled the line off while changing oil) both of which should be easy repairs, This is no hack job and is very well done, This car runs, drives, shifts, handles, just like it should and was built to look like it could have come from the factory like this, over all this car drives amazing, looks amazing,is a great cruise night car or would make a great daily driver, you won’t find another in this condition with this drivetrain, any questions please ask, Thanks for looking.
